See the Goal, Communicate the Vision
Oct 15, 2023Communicating the company’s vision and goals with new and current employees is crucial. Goals are milestones created to help achieve specific targets, while vision is the ability to think about the company’s future with insight. A vision has to be shared with the team regularly so it can continue to clarify and inspire the work.
As a manager, it is your job to generate a sense of commitment to your company’s vision. This can be done by communicating the vision in a way that matters to people and motivates them to do their best.
For example, saying to your colleagues, “We need to create 50 ads before the end of the month,” doesn’t have the same effect as saying, “We are ready for a productive month where each of you will reach new career heights! We can achieve that by preparing 50 ads before the month ends.”
6 Ways Managers Can Effectively Communicate Company Vision With Employees
Managers should communicate the company’s vision in different ways and continue to reinforce it across all available channels. Here are some ways you can get the company’s vision out there.
Tell a Story
When you tell an inspiring story, you give life to a vision. Compelling storytelling captures hearts, creates sense, and acts as a constant reminder. Moreover, people find stories more interesting than a corporate-sounding vision statement.
Keep It Short and Simple
While people love to hear stories, they may not always have the time to listen to lengthy accounts. Every manager should be able to communicate the company’s vision in a short, crisp, and clear manner. Be prepared to discuss it while standing in an elevator, going through the parking area, or waiting in line at the cafeteria.
Have Personal Conversations
One-on-one conversations allow leaders to transfer information, build support, receive feedback, and create enthusiasm around the vision. Be careful about your methods, and try new techniques to influence employees depending on what they find most compelling.
Create a Team Internally
Identify top-performing employees, communicators, supporters, and stakeholders within your company who will, in turn, inspire others and help them stick to the vision.
Use Different Media Platforms
The more communication platforms you use, the higher the chance of your team understanding the company’s vision. Utilize the latest communication technologies, and supplement them with tangible incentives like tote bags, coffee mugs, t-shirts, pens, etc.
Be Honest and Transparent
Communicating a vision effectively requires leaders to be open and honest. Make sure the vision and goals are true to every role in the company, and then measure the goals against different metrics. Share employees’ progress in achieving the goals regularly so they can be motivated to put in the effort. Identify and reward employees who contribute to achieving the goals and vision.
Summing Up
As a manager, you should visualize the goal and communicate the vision clearly with your team. Rather than imposing goals as duties, show employees how the company’s vision benefits them professionally to motivate them to strive to achieve them.
