Seek Congruence in Everything You Do

Mar 19, 2023

Congruence is essential.

Living congruently puts on display the genuineness of a leader, or any other person for that matter. How you interact with your clients, boss, and team members will reflect your personality and must be congruent with your values and vision.

Let's be real here... Since we are all human, expect everyone, even yourself, to struggle to be completely authentic. Still, do what you must to develop a consistent relationship with all the people you interact with.

How you show up in certain circumstances requires nuance but who you are shouldn't vary from person to person.

Although the behavior of the employees is not always part of the job description, it contributes a lot to maintaining and social and psychological environment in the office or organization.

Living Congruent

The term congruence has been very popular among business leaders, specifically managers. Congruence throughout an organization begins with leaders who reflect the organization's values and generally result in positive outcomes.

Some aspects of how congruence affects the workplace and the employees working there are discussed below.

Congruence Develops Trust

Miscommunication, lack of transparency, and "saying one thing, but doing another" will cause disruption and chaos among your people. Seek congruence in all messaging and communicate with your team regarding any changes you want to make.

Managers: Maintain a harmonious relationship with your team. Making decisions on your own, without communicating with them, does not breed trust.

Value Everyone’s Opinion

Ideally, a manager could consider everyone's opinion for the decisions and changes they might make in an organization. while that's not always possible, every employee should feel that they are part of this organization and they are being valued.

Try to keep everyone on the same page.

Inspire and encourage your people to achieve their personal goals. In this way, all team members will be more likely to trust you and discuss challenges with you. This will ultimately improve the progress of your company or organization.

Value Congruence

When a manager operates congruently with company values and objectives, and their actions are aligned with their values, they will indeed observe visible changes in how their teams show up.

The level of interest and effort in maintaining congruence will be directly correlated to how well the team is connected with the organization.

Final Thoughts

When employees see their leaders maintaining a balance between everyone and treating each employee with the same respect, then they feel valued in the organization.

As a manager, strive to seek unity and value everyone's opinion or input.

Ensure your team can trust you and feel comfortable sharing their thoughts with you. Treat them with the same respect as you respect your boss. Make them feel admired and see the positive changes in them.
