You must have followed someone while getting where you are now. Just like that, some people like your ideas and want to be like you as they grow in their careers.

Inspiring People As A Manager

The best leaders will always be followed by people of whom the leader is unaware. One can understand the secret of leadership by understanding the nature of those who follow. Your managing style should motivate and encourage employees to contribute and achieve the most desirable outcome. 

Some of these followers have so much confidence in such a leader that they follow without question. People will follow you if they believe in your vision, whether you know it or not.

Be careful to ensure that as people follow...you can be proud of where you have led them.

Followers Must Have Faith in You

Faith in a leader is inspired by trust. People follow those who are trustworthy and accountable. 

A leader is responsible for analyzing issues and making decisions. The trustworthy leader does not look for someone to blame if progress toward achieving the goals stops.

Therefore, if people have faith and are confident that their manager won’t punish them for their efforts, they will take acceptable and responsible risks that are well-reasoned and well-founded. This is often what is needed to achieve ambitious goals.

Be responsible and accountable to maintain the trust and confidence of your people.

Charisma, Influence, and Title

Sometimes you may need to show up as a charismatic and inspiring manager. Such influence and leadership persona may increase one's capacity to draw in more followers.

The ability to stay the course also contributes to gaining and keeping followers. If people maintain faith in a leader’s guidance, those who have followed the leader for a long time are likely to keep doing so in the most challenging times.

It is not unreasonable for managers and leaders to anticipate a certain level of respect and loyalty based on their role or position. However, one can be a leader that other employees desire to follow, regardless of position within the company, if they are a valued contributor.

Summing Up

People notice and follow your behavior and if they admire your strategies and way of leadership - you will be chosen to lead by gaining their trust and confidence. 

One of the top reasons many are promoted to roles like team leader, department manager, or supervisor in businesses is because they have consistently shown that people will follow them.

People who develop faith in your managerial style will choose to follow your lead, to achieve their goals.
